GESTI.
(progetto fotografico ancora aperto)
Gesture. Expressions of life
“By this expression I mean the ways in which men, society by society and according to tradition, know how to use their bodies.”
Marcel Mauss, Techniques of the Body, 1934
Walking, swimming, eating, sleeping, using our hands: these are things we learn, by watching, by imitating, by growing up somewhere. Every society teaches its bodies its own ways. A gesture is then a movement that says something and, at the same time, a trace: of a culture, of an upbringing, of those who came before. A greeting is a gesture. So is the way we bow, knead bread, throw a ball. Gesture lives inside work, prayer, play, the days as they pass. This project is still open.
